THE MEDIA GAME

How the Left Leaning Media Plays Their Game

The following letter was sent to me for print on my blog, simply because the Sun-News and other papers pick and choose what they print and most of it is for the left. I try to call things as they really are and have done so since starting this blog, but I must admit that the findings of truth sway more to the right side of the spectrum than to the left.

I say this only in that I have had the last six letter as a guest columnist and five letters to the editor left unprinted. I would imagine that I have offended someone at the paper and thereby do not get my letter printed or my view noted in the rag they call the Sun-News. I renewed my subscription recently because I thought the paper had changed their system of printing these views of differnet people, but they have continually persisted in printing only the views from the left, so when this subscription is out, I will no longer support the paper with my subscripion.

The following letter was not printed at the time this blog was posted for the day, but with the heat that follows from the many blogs that call attention to the facts as they are and not as the Sun-News or other leftist papers, or the TV stations would slant them. I also have been very concise in printing letters or responses as they come to my attention, whether pro or con. I may at times interject an opinion but have never shirked the duty of telling the facts as they are.

The letter in question was sent to me for publication as it appears:

This letter will probably not be published in the Sun-News due to the media’s feelings about the person I am about to address but here goes…

Mr. Steinborn, one of Dona Ana’s “Sacred Cows” and ‘Favorite Sons” has deceived the people of Las Cruces. I have finally gotten tired of this total LACK of support for Dona Ana County while he is serving in Santa Fe. He has taken credit for MANY acts of legislation, when , in fact he has been a fence sitter until the final vote comes before the house and then he votes on the side that is going to win to make his record look good.

One case in point is him being given credit for getting Las Cruces awarded the Veteran’s Museum project. He did nothing to support Dona Ana County’s fight to get this landmark located here in this city! The reason we were awarded this contract was because of a Grass Roots telephone and letter campaign started by Veterans and Veteran Organizations in Dona Ana County and the citizens directly addressing the Governor’s office. Steinborn was given credit by his political buddy the Governor for being solely responsible for getting us the museum located her in Las Cruces, due to all his sole work. This is a lot of political leftist bull!!!

Now Mr. Steinborn wants us to re-elect him to the seat he now holds in Santa Fe, that has for the most part been awarded to the Steinborn name and not due to anything he has accomplished in his life.

Now I see that he has not only taken unearned credit for representing the people of Dona Ana County, but he has shown that he feels that he is so privileged, he has the nerve and the right to place his campaign sign on Roadrunner Parkway, near the Veterans’ Park and in front of his opponent’s sign that was in place at least a week BEFORE his sign went up. What dirty politics this is. Jeff you should be ashamed of yourself. What you have done is tantamount to REMOVING, Or DEFACINGANOTHER politician’s sign and replacing it with your own. This ids very disrespectful!!!

Is this really the caliber of underhanded person we want representing us in the legislature? Yes people, , it really is time for a change in the “Good Old Boy and Girl Club in Santa Fe to change for the better. Being a voter who believes in voting for the right person for the job and NOT a political party I firmly believe change is coming in November. Jeff Steinborn has proven for the last four years that he is IS NOT THE ETHICAL, HONEST person to represent me.

The Number of Aliens Really in the U S

Time for the Truth to be Known

According to a report  in the Arizona Sentinel who has been reporting that the real number of aliens in the U S just from doing the math since 1986 is close to 44 million.

This story it seems comes from a pilot in Prescott Arizona who was on site last week and reported what he saw from his own perspective. It sees that the information he has relayed is more of a bombshell than the American people suspected.

Last Thursday he was asked to fly Brady Beauchamp, a Republican candidate from District 1 in Arizona for the Congress of the United States, Sierra Vista in southern Arizona, so that he could tour the border of Arizona with Mexico. He was invited to accompany the people in this expedition and accepted with great enthusiasm. The group spent 5 hours on the border fence, with the tour being conducted by Border Patrol personnel; not by headquarters staff or Public Information officers.

There was certain tactical information the Border Patrol were not allowed to share for security reasons and they were told they could not photograph Border Patrol Officers for their own safety. In his e-mail he tried to insert some of the photos but it overloaded the computer and he spent the whole day trying to send the e-mail and had no success. If photos do manage to be sent I will try to post them on my blog at some later date with an update on the story.

On Site Happenings

There are rumors in the media that the Border Patrol is sitting back 50 to 60 miles from the border fence with road check points and not patrolling near the fence, which is not the truth of the matter. There are officers patrolling along the fence itself 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Their first line of defense us to stop illegal at the fence, or within one mile of their entry into the U S. There are several fence types with the short span of 50 miles that the group saw.

Most fences are built with a footing of 5 feet; this is to discourage tunneling  and burrowing under it, but the vertical part of the fences are different and bear no resemblance of being one steady stream of fencing and shaped metal and different spacing and heights. Some are vertical steel posts filled with concrete, some are columns with heavy wire mesh and another is steel plate, put up by the National Guard a few years ago, using metal aircraft landing strip material. Fence styles range from 10, 12 and 15 feet in height and each style fence, having been built by different contractors, with nothing meeting standard form of construction. All the types of construction have some weaknesses and all were readily climbable using either rope, rope ladders or standard wooden ladders and the cartels even have hydraulic truck ramps on very large trucks that ramp from the Mexican side of the border to the American side, enabling them to drive vehicles from one side to the other. The Border Patrol Officers like to be able to look through the fencing in order to avoid surprises from the other side.

Another gamut is to cut the fence with welding equipment and install hinges on a makeshift door that can be used on an ongoing basis, using clay or putty to disguise the cuts so we do not weld them shut again. There is no fear from the police and military on the Mexican side, since they are regularly paid off to look the other way. What really surprised the pilot on this tour was the blue flags that marked the location of water barrels  placed within just a few yards of the fence on the Mexican side of the border, pointing illegal crossers to a place they could top off their canteens and jugs before attacking the fence. Most all the illegals who cross into our country is controlled by the drug cartels of Mexico.

Most of them pay from $1,000.00. to $4,000.00 dollars per head for the services the cartels provide to get them through the fence and to a fairly safe distance into the U S. many members of the crosser’s family are held as ransom until the balance of the money is sent back by the crossers in the U S. The Border Patrol catches large numbers of illegals, but the effectiveness is limited by the number of agents available at the time. At the present time, no one crosses without the blessings of the cartels and groups range in size from 5 to as many as 30 people and are guided by cartel employees that bolt at the first sign of trouble.  Most of these cartel employees are criminals, wanted in the U S and risk imprisonment if caught by the Border Patrol.

Realities of a Job That is Undermanned and Hogtied

When a ‘catch’ is made the BP takes them to headquarters for identification, fingerprinting and documentation which takes 25 to 30% of the agent’s time, just doing administrative work. According to the Border Patrol that was escorting the group; they relayed the information that if they had double the number of agents and one clerical staff for every three agents, they would be able to stop almost all illegals entering the country.  According to these dedicated agents, what would really be a great help would be to build a double fence of standard design parallel to the current fence with a space of 50 or 75 feet in between and patrol in the dead zone that separates the two fences and maybe land mines and sniper in between at periodic stations; the land mines and snipers did not sell to the politicians in Washington of course.

One trick used by the BP is to drag tires behind their vehicles to create a smooth trail along the fence, then look for tracks in the smooth dirt. This is known as tracking, since the crossers will leave tracks in the dirt where the tires have been dragged across. They of course have many other tactics and technological ways and equipment they use to catch illegals, but the BP agents were not talking about them.

The group did view one piece of equipment, though they could not see it in operation and that was a one million dollar, truck mounted device that can track humans from a long distance away, but they need quite a few more of those types of equipment to make the job become much more efficient very quickly. According to the BP, every time the U S changes tactics, so do the cartel, which creates a huge chess game. The Border Patrol Officers have drones but say they are not as effective as helicopters for finding and hovering over a group of illegals until they can be contained and captured by ground personnel.

A War That’s Becoming More Dangerous by the Day

When the tour group came to the San Pedro River they found the fence stopped because the environmentalists will not allow a permanent fence to be erected across the river. This river is a seasonal stream and the day the group was there it was not one of its active days. The river showed activity recently according the BPOs who were standing watch there. As the group drove up to the stand the watchers had established, he had been watching a Mexican spotter across the border in a stand of cottonwood trees. He figured a group of illegals would be coming through any sometime soon, since in that area the border was only protected by large cross beams that any four wheel drive vehicle could drag aside.

The BPO estimate that approximately 100 illegals cross this section during the day and upward of 500 by night. Their personal estimates of illegals in the U S today are between 35 and 40 million, which is not the politically correct number given by the media or the politicians in Washington. That number is quoted at 10 to 12 million.

From their interviews and experience with illegals the BPO have ascertained that most of them say they do not wish to become a part of the American system, or our way of life, but want to stay what they are and live in their own country. It was reminiscent of the group’s visit to Central and South America on their visit there and their tour of the countries involved. Many of the countries are being overrun by people migrating to the cities of those countries and overwhelming the economic systems. This of course sounds a lot different from what we hear from Washington and most of the media. What you are reading here is from the troops on the ground that are fighting to keep our country and system safe.

We have put brave and stalwart men and women on the ground to fight against this invasion that can wreck our economy if it isn’t stopped. We need to support them mentally and physically in their efforts to pursue their jobs. Under the conditions we have at present it is a ‘no win situation’ much like the war in Viet Nam and the politicians and media do not have the guts to admit the system has broken down on all fronts; both at the level of the drug interdiction and the illegal migration into this country.  It reminded the pilot who was along on this tour of the missions he flew in Viet Nam on his two tours there.

According to this stalwart pilot who was just along for the ride, we do not have the political fortitude to stand up for what the American people want and know is right. Our President and Senators along with the head of Homeland Security ignore our troops on the ground in the name of politics. It has become a boondoggle that is a disgrace and a shame against our entire nation.

PEOPLE FIRST, PETS SECOND, THEN URBAN WILDLIFE

By Michael Swickard, Ph.D.  8/26/10, 12:50 pm

Michael Swickard
The facts are simple. David pulled up to his house and noticed a rattlesnake in his driveway. He killed the rattlesnake to protect his family. No, he did not try to get along with the rattlesnake or pick it up and move it to the yard of someone else. He killed it exactly as I would have done.

I was rather amazed when reading his column in the Las Cruces Bulletin that he would admit killing a Rio Grande High Mountain Desert Southwest Chihuahuan Wilderness Silvery Mexican Gray varmint rattlesnake. People add all sorts of extra names to ordinary varmints such as rattlesnakes to make them seem exotic. Also, they have been saying that rattlesnakes are not dangerous to our grandbabies when in fact they are.

Well, he did kill the rattlesnake and wrote about it. I salute him. There are those people who think that rattlesnakes can coexist with grandbabies. Not so. Most of us kill varmints without public comment since there are wingnuts out there who weep copious tears and want us to walk around rattlesnakes at our peril. I was raised differently.

I have three rules about varmints such as rattlesnakes: First, if I see them anywhere around my house or my family’s ranch house I kill them. If I see them around civilization I often will kill them so as not to leave the danger for other people. If I see them anywhere else such as in the desert I strictly leave them alone.

Contrary to some people’s thoughts I do not hate nor fear rattlesnakes. At our family ranch south of Carrizozo I have thinned them out all of my life. As a child I pointed them out to my grandfather who killed them before they could kill me. Out in the desert I have left them alone all of my life. But, around the people I love I do not hesitate to act.

No Joy in Killing
Now there is no joy in killing things in my life. I do not sport hunt, though I think that a personal preference and beyond the control of environmentalists who would ban such activities. One of the most interesting guests on my former talk radio show attempted regularly to sell the concept that caterpillars have the same constitutional rights and guarantees as humans. He did not convince me.

Back to rattlesnakes, which are found even in town. I would prefer to leave them alone, but I have a duty to those I love, a duty to humans that supersedes environmentalist concerns about the rights of rattlesnakes. Further, do not EVEN try to make the case that rattlesnakes will not bite or that the bite will not be an emergency. It does not sell with me.

Obviously, there needs to be an urban wildlife plan in Southern New Mexico to give guidance to the mix of potentially dangerous critters and people. Here is my take: I protect myself, my loved ones AND my pets from all wildlife. Period. The priority is humans first, pets second, varmints last.
That means the rattlesnakes, coyotes, foxes, bobcats, mountain lions, bears and wolves do not get to hang out in my backyard. If there is a law that they have priority over my life and my grandbabies I will go to jail killing the dangers in my backyard. Again, if they are out in the desert, we pass without comment.

Bears especially do come into our neighborhoods occasionally and this is where the urban wilderness plan must be specific: Humans have priority. The problem with bears is if you anesthetize Yogi and drop him in another’s bear’s territory in the great outback of New Mexico there is going to be at least one dead bear since they will fight to the death. It is either Yogi or the other bear who will die, but we pay no attention to the real outcome and seem to feel good that we dealt with the bear in such a “humane” manner.

Hence, let us be honest. When wildlife comes in contact with us at our houses, we either put them in a zoo or in the ground. Humans have the priority in our little slice of heaven, especially grandbabies.

You can reach Michael at michael@swickard.com. The information about bears in this column comes from Rink Sommerday, a frequent guest from the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Center east of Las Cruces. She spoke of bears and problems with relocating bears often as it was part of her background.

SEPERATING FACT FROM FICTION

Ground Zero in the Light

The conflict centered around the mosque near ground zero should start losing some of its audience soon since New York officials have the authority to decide if an Islamic center can or cannot be built near the site of the Twin Towers attacks and they have given the go ahead to do so.

Our foreign policy makers are worried about the intemperate rants against the project are hurting efforts to win hearts and minds in the Muslim world. Experts fear that the nastiness might antagonize what is loosely called the Arab Interests in America, as well as the angry masses in most of the Middle East.

Maybe it would be useful for our makers of foreign policy to understand the feelings of the Americans on the streets of our nation as well. Maybe their military interventions to turn the Islamic cultures into Jeffersonian democracies have not won the hearts and minds of Americans, or of the Muslim nations. They certainly haven't delivered the promised huge outpouring of affection from the Muslim people that Condoleezza Rice kept saying we were liberating.

The Certainty of Truth

But one thing is for certain, we must not bend to the will of a people who mean only harm and destruction for the United States and its people. According to the radicals that are taking control of the different segments of Islam, they want the death of all infidels and have had this same goal for over a thousand years.

It is not the Muslims or their churches the Americans are afraid of, or do not want in this country, it is the radicals and terrorists that have infiltrated the Islamic faith and are bent on changing our nation to fit their desires and ethnic morals. It is the radicals and terrorists within the Islamic structure that the American people are so bent on restricting from this country, as so many other countries in Europe and the rest of the world have done.

Left-wing columnist Frank Rich accused the right wing media agitators of undermining the military effort in Afghanistan by stoking anger against the project. I would very much like to know how he can call the media right wing agitators when they have been firmly behind the Democrats all along. Fox News is the only right backers of the right wing and they have been slapped down every time they voice an opinion on Afghanistan or the Democrats by none other than our President, Barack Obama. He wrote, "So virulent is the Islamophobic hysteria of the neocon and Fox News right that it has also rendered Gen. David Petraeus’ last-ditch counterinsurgency strategy for fighting the war inoperative."

Now who in their right mind would ever believe that one lone network could sway the balance of outcome of any part of the Afghan situation? Surely he is aware that Fox News, or Sarah Palin, or anyone else on the right doesn’t give a damn one way or the other about Afghanistan.

Twisted Truths

George W. Bush was called America's First Muslim president by Muslim American leader Suhail Khan, but it was said as an insult rather than a statement of fact. Khan recalled in his writings how the Republican national convention that nominated Bush for president in 2000 included a Muslim prayer, but he forgot to mention that it was out of respect for all religions. He noted that President Bush frequently celebrated Americans who regularly attend a church, synagogue or mosque, again out of respect for all religions and said Bush won over 70%of the Muslim vote that year, but forgot to mention that it was an attempt to draw their mosques further away from the radicals and terrorists.

The desire to turn the Middle East into democratic, peace-loving societies, for their good and ours was a mistake when we invaded Iraq. But the report by our intelligence community was the real reason we went to war with Iraq. It took what was called phony evidence about weapons of mass destruction to bring the American public securely onboard, but by the time we started looking for those WMDs they had been quickly sent to other countries allied with Iraq.

The vision of attacks by the Muslim controlled nations using nuclear weapons was as real then as it is today. Only the countries have changed. Most people feel that the project near ground zero is a way of rubbing our face in the mud by planting a mosque so near the site.

The American people have been told for years to tiptoe around Islamic sensitivities, while Islamists have provoked theirs. If a mosque two blocks from the site of outrage done in the name of Islam bothers so many Americans, why not just move it elsewhere?

This is an affront to the people who lost their lives to the radical Muslims of that attacked our sovereign soil, by condoning what they did by the very act of the effrontery. Froma Harrison wrote in the Rasmussen report that “the street knows and is talking”. She has put a twisted slant on the entire situation, leaving the truth lying in the dust to be trampled by the passing multitudes. Could she by some strange circumstance be in alignment with the Muslim radicals, who hope to subdue the greatest nation on earth? That is for the questing mind to wonder, and to decide for themselves.

MUSLIMS CANNOT COMPLAIN

GREG GUTFIELD OPENS GAY BAR NEAR GROUND ZERO TO (for “Islamic Gay Men”)

By: Greg Gutfield

No, this is not a joke. In fact, it is instead one of the most brilliant pieces of provocations in recent years. Greg Gutfield from Fox News’ Red Eye announced today via his blog that he is actively speaking to investors and plans on opening a gay bar next to the controversial mosque being built near Ground Zero in New York. To make matters worse (better?) the bar will be specifically designed to cater to homosexuals of the Islamic faith. God, this is going to be an exciting block.

Here’s Gutfield’s entire post which he will expand upon during tonight’s Red Eye:

“So, the Muslim investors championing the construction of the new mosque near Ground Zero claim it’s all about strengthening the relationship between the Muslim and non-Muslim world.

As an American, I believe they have every right to build the mosque – after all, if they buy the land and they follow the law – who can stop them?

Which is, why, in the spirit of outreach, I’ve decided to do the same thing.

I’m announcing tonight, that I am planning to build and open the first gay bar that caters not only to the west, but also Islamic gay men. To best express my sincere desire for dialogue, the bar will be situated next to the mosque Park51, in an available commercial space.

This is not a joke. I’ve already spoken to a number of investors, who have pledged their support in this bipartisan bid for understanding and tolerance.

As you know, the Muslim faith doesn’t look kindly upon homosexuality, which is why I’m building this bar. It is an effort to break down barriers and reduce deadly homophobia in the Islamic world.

The goal, however, is not simply to open a typical gay bar, but one friendly to men of Islamic faith. An entire floor, for example, will feature non-alcoholic drinks, since booze is forbidden by the faith. The bar will be open all day and night, to accommodate men who would rather keep their sexuality under wraps – but still want to dance.

Bottom line: I hope that the mosque owners will be as open to the bar, as I am to the new mosque. After all, the belief driving them to open up their center near Ground Zero, is no different than mine.

My place, however, will have better music.”
